The Anza Bambino Purple Elkhorn (8F Small) was meant to be compact, and it owns that. There’s a defined index finger groove that immediately locks you in, and even with my extra large hands I’m getting three and three quarter fingers on the handle. Almost four. That’s more than enough when the shape is right.
And that’s the key. The handle doesn’t just sit in the palm — it swells into the fingers. Instead of rolling away from your grip, it nests into it. I can almost cup the entire knife into my fingers, and it feels planted and secure.
For a shorter blade, that control becomes an advantage. You can run your thumb all the way out toward the tip and apply pressure exactly where it counts. That kind of leverage on a compact, sturdy fixed blade makes it a seriously practical EDC option for someone who wants toughness without carrying something oversized or heavy.
